RIFLE SHOOTING.
SOUTH ISLAND ASSOCIATION
The first executive meeting of the South Island Kifle Association was held on Saturday evening. Present: Major J. P. Oakes (presiding), Messrs W. S. Wharton, N. Wood, J. Clark, W. Barrett, W. Wilson, W. Heney, J. S. Cook, J. S. Buschl, D. Harris, and the secretary (E. H. Neill). It was decided to agree to the wish of the annual. meeting to hold the South Island championships at Redcliffs on Monday and Tuesday, January 2nd and 3rd. After discussion, it was decided to allot £3O in prize money to each of the six matches, namely Canterbury, Westland, Nel6on, Marlborough, Ota-go, and Southland. The prize-list in each match is to contain 32 prizes. The grand aggregate carries a total of 18 prizes valued at £24. In addition there will be two service matches, one to be fired on each day of the meeting. The total prize money to be distributed during the two days is in the vicinity of £232. In addition there will be the champion teams match and also special tropiie3 and prizes. An anonymous donor has given a trophy to the highest aggregate scorer in the above match.
On the motion of Mr J. S. Cook (Rangiora) it was decided to have two optional sighters in all ten shot matches. Though the programme is based on 100 entries, the executive is making every endeavour to carry out the prize-list in full, if possible. With this in ivew, the meeting decided to appeal to all rifle clubs in the South Island to affiliate.
