CHRISTCHURCH CENTRE. The monthly meeting of the Christchurch Bowling Centre was held last evening. Mr F. J. Good occupied the chair. Others present were: Messrs M. F. Barnett, C. Piper, W. D. Ramsay, T. W. Rose, J. Allen, D. E. Wood, H. B. Oakey, H. Burson, J. Brown, J. B. Borthwick, W. Raphael, J. A. Russell, H. Firman, E. W. Taylor, A. C. Holmes, E. H. Healey, F. Steans, 0. J. Morrison, W. Archbold, J. W. Hayward, W. Efford, S. McDonald, G. W. C. Smithson, F. G. Fox, F. G. Barrett, and E. W. Wade (secretary). . . The Linwood Gltfb Bought permission for the holding of a rinks tournament on January 2nd and 3rd, 1928. The application was granted. . . , .. The Timaru Olub wrote enquiring whether the Christchurch team playing there on December 3rd would stay overnight, as it desired 'to entertain .members. The secretary said he had replied advising that the team would stay in Timaru until Sunday, December 4th. His action was approved, and the question of arranging transport, was left in the hands of the Match Committee. , The Canterbury Olub advised that its green would be available for use for the annual match between the Christchurch Centre and the Justices' of the Peace Association on November 24th. ... „ A letter was received from the New Zealand Olympic Games Association asking that the Centre affiliate and for information regarding affiliated clubs. At the request of a member the secretary read the objects of the Association. "If we send them a guinea, it will be i just a courteßy subscription," said Mr Good. "I don't know that it is going to ] do much good to bowling." . Mr Healey: I suppose it will be strictly amateur. . The chairman: Oh, I think so. It was decided to acknowledge the letter and to supply the addresses of secretaries of the clubs. Accounts for £7 9s 9d were paised for Mr Good said he had noticed in the Tesults of games that some of them were given a 9 ties on the 21st head. There should be no ties, and every game should be played to °Mr Efford invited clubs to nominate suitable persons as umpires for the forthcoming Dominion tournament. <, Appointment of Umpires. Mr Smithson asked whether teams were electing umpires before play in the pennant competition. Three lots of unstamped bowls had been thrown out by him at Sumner, and he knew they had been played with on tho previous Saturday at Sydenham. The secretary said he was doing his best to have tho matter observed. In reply to a question, the chairman said clubs could make any arrangements suitable for matches on Docember 24th, when many players would be away. ~ . .. In reply to a question from Mr Barrett, the chairman said there was nothing in the rules covering the size of greens, lhe laws of the game made it clear that short heads could be played. . Mr Barrett said he understood that the Beckenham green was under 100 ft one way. Mr Firman said he tad had the Beckenham green measured, and found that it was 102 ft by 11° Mr Barrett said he thought it was shortor by several feet. . , . The chairman said a private letter had been received from Mr Piper of Auckland, stating that 17 players would leavo there on December 2nd for Molbourne. Mr W. Raphael, delegate from the Allenton Club, was accorded ft welcome to the Ce The e 'chairman suggested that clubs should arrange matches in the country on the day on which they had the bye. He mentioned the following clubs as being among those which would welcome n visit: Oxford, Ashburton, Methven, Rakaia, Akaroa, Dunsandel, Leeston, and Sonthbridge. Several delegates said tho town clubs would welcome visits from the country. Mr Good said most of those he had mentioned would be glad to return matches. Messrs Good and Colvitle were appointed to represent the Centre at the meeting to be held on November 25th to make arrangements for a fitting recognition of Mr T. K. Sidey's efforts in promoting the Summer Time Act. , , , , .... Shirley Club challenged for the colts shield. Mr Fox (Barrington Club) having raised the question of the future of the trophy.
