"NAUGHTY BUT NICE."
COLLEEN MOORE'S LATEST. SPARKLING COMEDY AT EVERYBODY'S. The number of surprisingly interesting things that can happen in as exclusive girls' school when a ten-million-dollar heiress innocent but ambitious, puts in an appearance il. shown in Colleen Moore's latest picture' "Naughty But Nice," which heads the bill at Everybody's Theatre this week. The heiress is Berenice Summers (Colleen Moore). Plain, long-haired, spectacled, and freckled lassie who gains freedom from her uncles Texas ranch when oil found on his prop ert y makes him one of the richest of the rich In a mail-order house wardrobe Berenice rlEidW hi S ' rlS ' fiDishine * chool - wh «« she rapidly blossoms into the school's most fascinating pupil ant.,, tße inevitable man _ ,n„« i r °K ' l v C town ' s most handsome and Imfnan S 2 chtU "' *ho becomes deeply smitten, and who, from his appearance on ttie screen, becomes entangled with the star m a series of what are usually termed spicy situations." Of course in picture plays, even more than in real life, the course of true love does not run smooth, and it takes quite a lengthy series of highlv humorous episodes to straighten out the tangle which the long arm of coincidence has woven, before Carroll and his heiress bride make their final bow to those who have followed their "Naughty But Nice" adventures on the screen. One of the "naughtiest episodes in this sparkling comedy is when Berenice, through a scries of coincidences, finds herself introduced to a familv gathering as the newly-made bride of a man whom she has just met. Every effort is made to induce the "bride" and "groom" to enter the bridal suite, before they are finally herded in. Berenice sleeps on the roof, rolls off, it chased by a policeman, finds Carroll, marries him, and they return to the bridal suite. A particularly strong cast interprets the story, though the bulk of the work. of course, falls upon Colleen Moore. The skill and charm with which this gifted actress has invested her role are certain to appeal to everyone who sees the picture because she has brought to the characterisation of "Berenice Summers" all the vivacity, insouciance, wilful youthfulness -and sympathy in scenes of dramatic intensity that have made her so well and. favourably known wherever motion pictures are exhibited. The other feature film this week is "Undor the Southern Cross," a really excellent New Zealand production with its settings in and around Hawke's Bay. The photography in this latest Dominion production is the equal of anything yet screened from the studios of Hollywood, and though the plot is a very thin one, the production as a whole is something of which the Dominion may well be proud. Apparently this was the opinion of the audience last ovening, for at the conclusion of its screening "Under the Southern Cross" was very generously applauded. The scenic settings are particularly fine, and life on a backblocks station is admirably portrayed. Everybody's Orchestra provides a bright musical entertainment with a well arranged programme of classical excerpts and popular numbers. The same programme will be presented all this week, reserves being at The Bristol.
