[ One of the quaintest houses in existence is at Hauterives. a French village. It was erected by a postman, who once saw a picture of a* wonderful palace built by an Indian rajah, and determined that sooner or later he would have a place just like it himself. He began building in 1879. and it took him 34 years to complete. The postman did the whole of the work himself in his spare time, being among other things, sculptor, mason, and builder, as well as architect. The pjaee is a mixture ef all the styles of a"reh> tecture in existence. It includes a mosque, a feudal castle, a square/Al* gerian house, a Swiss chalet, and ~"& tower.
