- -a.... TRUNK TELEPHONE SYSTEM. A letter from the Punedin Chamber of Commerce was received at last night's meeting of the Canterbury Chamber, stating that at a meeting of the Council of the Chamber, attention was drawn to the lack of privacy on trunk lines, by the present automatic system, and the following resolution had been carried: "That this Chamber respectfully draws the attention of the Department to the fact that the present system of automatic telephones installed by them prpvides no method of holding private conversations, where numerous telephones a're installed in the larger offices. In the ppinipa of this Chamber some contrivance, to ensure privacy should be prpyided by the Department at a reasonable cost, and we respectfully urge that the Department give this matter its early attention." The Council would be glad of the support of the Canterbury Chamber. A sub-committee was appointed to enquire into the matter.
