PROHIBITION IN AMERICA.

TO THE EDITOR OK THE TBES3. Sir.—Yqu give prominence to the opinion of Mr Percv Braithwaitc tlian Prohibition in U.S.A. is a failure. Some time ago. Mr James Begs (whoso opinion cuts a lot more ice throughout the Dominion than the opinion of ->' r Braithwaitc) returned from the States. In common with the "Otago Daily Times'' you published Mr Begg s remarks on" the question of irrigation in California, but unlike the '"O.D.T.i you omitted his statement about toe success of Prohibition in the States. Readers of Thk Press know the policy of your journal on this question, but surely your subscribers are entitled to ajl the information at your disposal. Yours, etc., „ F. 0. SHACKLOCK. Christchurch, November 14th. [lf we printed "all the information at our disposal" we should hare no room for anything else. "\Ye printed Mr Braithwaite's remarks because they were interesting ia themselves, and because they came from one who visited America with strong leanings towards Prohibition.—Ed., The Pbess.] HONEY. TO THE EDITOR OP THE TRESS. Sir,—l could not help noticing in an article in to-day's issue of your paper a statement made at the Beekeepers Held day at Tai Tapu, regarding the price of honey. Evidently Mr Murdoch, of Ross, is not the only pebble on the beach who is dissatisfied with the operations of the N.Z.H.P.A. Ihe members of that body must be waiting with great anticipation the results ot Mr RcntouPs tour abroad. I have been following the meagre accounts which have appeared in the daily papers and so far have nob seen any great accounts of increased sales orbig cuts in overhead expenses. I believe he has managed to get a reduction of 9s per ton on freight, which works out at less than l-l<3ths of a penny per pound. Had this reduction taken place last season when 600 tons were exported, it would have meant a saving of £270 to be divided amongst the suppliers, which, if all members of the H.P.A. are loyal, and only dispose of their honey through that body, will not be a magnificent sum each. —Yours, etc., INTERESTED. November 11th.
