Canada's Immigration Policy. Ottawa, November 12—At a conference of Provincial Premiers to-day, the Hon. Robert Forke, Minister for Immigration, announced that unlimited acceptance and placement of farm and house-workers from the British Isles would be the Federal Government's immigration policy in the. future. Reform of Chamber. Rome, November 12—The Fascist Grand Council has approved of a scheme whereby Italy will become one vast constituency for the purpose of electing a new form of the Chamber of Deputies with 400 instead of 360 members. One national list of approved candidates will be submitted to the electors, who are limited to those useful to the State. Dutchmen Replace Asiatics. London, November 12—The HollandAustralia Shipping Line, which owns the steamer Almkerk, whose captain was fined at Perth in connexion with Chinese stowaways, is replacing its Asiatic deckhands -with Dutchmen. Disarmament Committee. Genoa, November ' 13—The Soviet has applied for passports to attend meetings preparatory to the Disarmament Committee, which sits on December 30th. Communist Internationale. j The Hague, November 13—A conference of anti-Communist Associations, comprising lawyers from eighteen countries, carried a resolution urging Governments to declare the Communist Internationale illegal and facilitate the extradition of persona guilty of carrying out its programme.
Cockatoo Island Dockyard. Canberra, November 12—The Ministry has decided to retain Cockatoo Island dockyard because of its value for naval purposes. Last year it made a profit of £2OOO. When the Commonwealth steamers are sold the dockyard will probably be placed under the control of an expert naval engineer. Commonwealth Oil Refineries. Canberra, November 12—Sir George has announced in the Senate that the gross profits from the Commonvcalth oil refineries last year amounted to £112,427, a net profit 0f.£69,200. Water Diviner's Success. Perth, November 12—Until now the Wyndham Meat Works have been handicapped by havii t0 j car t water several miles. Though sceptical regarding the water diviner's art, the manager agreed to _ obtain the services of one, who quickly struck two copious sources of supply close to the town. Roma Oil Bore. Brisbane, November 12—Reviewing the operations at the Roma oil bore, the Minister for Mines, Mr Jones, said that testa carried out to date had produced 5500 gallons of fluid, from which 525 gallons of very light, high quality oil had been obtained. The prospects of obtaining oil in commercial quantities were very bright. Work for Unemployed. Sydney, November 12—Recent unemployed propaganda activity has resulted m Mr Bavin declaring that the Government intends to provide work for the unemployed in the shape of reproductive public works. International Soccer Match, London, November 12—At Blackpool, 7000 spectators watched an amateur Soccer match in which England and Ireland drew with one goal each.
