TIMARU.
CHURCH PARADE. A Church parade in commemoration of Armistice Day took place here yesterday, nino officers and 532 other ranks parading under Colonel L. M. Inglis, M.C., Ist Battalion Canterbury Regiment. The parade state was as follows: —Colonel Inglis, Major A. S. Hooper, 2nd "Wiltshire- Regiment, Lieut, L. A. Clements, N.Z.P.S.; C. Squadron, C.Y.C, under Captain H. J. Sheldon; Pipe Band, tinder Drum-Major C. De Joux; C Company, Ist Battalion Canterbury Kcgiment, under Major S. D. Mason; Lieut. P. J. McDougall, Lieut. W. Jaques and Lieut. D. Malcolm; Headquarters Platoon, Ist Battalion; Boys' High School Band; B Company, 6th Cadet Battalion, and C Company, 6th Cadet Battalion, under Lieut. J. E. McKay.
Thft-parade marched past Colonel Inglis at the entrance to the Drill Hall. The Territorials attended Chalmers Church, where the Rev. P. Gladstone Hughes was the preacher, and the Cadets attended a service conducted by the Rev. Mr Lawry at the Bank street Methodist Church. The Boys' High School, A Company, 2nd Cadet Battalion, paraded at the School and attended St. Mary's Church in the morning. Bankruptcy. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate df James Herbert Craig, wool buyer, of Temuka, lapsed for want of a quorum. There were no secured creditors, assets, stock-in-trade, book debts, cash in hand, or property. The . total deficiency was £609 14s 6d. The decision to commence picture programmes at 8.30 p.m. during the months of daylight saving has not met with public support, and the management of the picture theatres have decided to revert to the old system and commence screening at 8 p.m. The work of laying lines in Wai-iti road for the installation of the underground telephone system has been completed, and workmen are now engaged in excavating Sophia street. The Park Curator, Mr D. N. Harper, has been authorised to plant flowers in the triangular plot opposite the railway station. A stone border has been placed around the plot, and the ground is being prepared for the plants. Soveral anglers visited the Opihi river during the week-end, and some fair catches were made. The river was somewhat swollen and dirty, but was in fair fishing condition. The Salvation Army Silver Band provided a programme of sacred music at the Public Hospital yesterday afternoon. Fire broke out in a chimney at a house in Wai-iti road about 11 p.m. on Saturday. The Brigade was moncd, but the fire was extinguished by means of a chemical plant. Adjutant Battersby, lady medical missionary, addressed meetings in the Salvation Army Citadel yesterday on missionary work, in Japan, Eussia, and Korea. Methodist Church. There was a good attendance at the quarterly meeting of the Methodist Church, over which the Eev. A. C. Lawry presided. Motions of sympathy were passed with the relatives of the late Mrs Logan and the late Mr J. Ogg. It was decided to invite the Eev. P. T. Cook to remain at the Woodlands street Church for another year. * It was decided to endeavour to obtain the services of the Eev. C. C. Hoskin for a further term. The following representatives at Synod were appointed:—Messrs H. H. Brown, J. F. Arnold, and W. E. Harris. Messrs M. Freeme, J. Kadeliffe, and G. Hall were appointed substitutes. It was reported that £93 was raised by the recent sale of work, and that £SO had been given by the Bank street Ladies' Guild to the trust funds. Cricket. Star defeated Zingari by three runs on the first innings, the scores being 113 to 110. Zingari declared with 150 in the second innings, and when time was called Star had made 96 for seven wickets. The principal scorers were . Ditchfiold 46, Herdman'2o, Menzies 17, and Seaton 15.
