SERVICE NOTES.

(TOOK OTO OWJT COBBESPOHDIirr.) LONDON, October 8. Lieutenant A. J. L. Whyte, Royal Engineers, who has been dicing duty with the 40th (Fortress) Company, R.E., at Hong-Kong for the past threo years, has been appointed. Aide-de-Camp to his Excellency Sir Cecil Clementi, K.C.M.G., Governor and Com-mander-in-Chief, Hong-Kong and its Dependencies, from October Ist, 1927. Lieutenant Whyte is a New Zealand graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon, and previous to joining the Royal Engineers in April, 1922, he served as a Lieutenant, New Zealand Staff' Corps.

The following is an extract from the London Gazette, dated War Office, September 30th, 1927, and will be of interest to the Wellington West Coast Regiment, Wanganui, which is allied! with the Hampshire Regiment: "Hampshire Regiment: LieutenantColonel L. C. Morley, on completion of his period of service in command, is placed on the half-pay list (October Ist). Major and Brevet-Lieutenant-Colonel C. R. V. Savile, D.5.0., 0.8. E., from the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) to be LieutenantColonel (October Ist). Major and Brevet-Lieutenant-Colonel W. H. Middleton, D.5.0., retires on retired pay (October Ist). Captain F, A. Atchison to be Major." Lieutenant-Colonel Clare R. V. Savile, the new Commanding Officer of the 2nd. Battalion, the Hampshire Regiment, is a graduate of the Staff College and has had ten years with the West African Frontier Force, including active service in Northern Nigeria and Cameroon.

The following are among the Naval, Regular, and! Territorial Army Officers and Royal Air Force Officers who have joined the Army Officers' School, Well Marsh, Sheerness, for the 25th course: Lieutenant-Colonel A. S. Hawker, M.C., 3rd Australian Light Horse Begiment, and Major P. de L. D. Passy, Royal Canadian Engineers.
