OPINIONS WANTED
- —♦■ — CONTROL OF MOTOR TRAFFIC. STATE SEEKS ADVICE. (PBESS ISSOCUTIOK TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, November 11. The Public Works Department is circulating draft regulations under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1924, to all bodies interested in the Dominion. An official statement with the draft says the regulations have been prepared with a view to obtaining uniformity throughout New Zealand in the essential requirements of motor vehicle control. Although considerable care and thought have been given to their compilation, it is not claimed they are perfect, and for tin's reason they are being submitted to all authorities likely to be interested for the purpose of enabling constructive criticism to be received which may add to their value before they are finally issued. Tin's course is considered to be particularly desirable as, although the regulations are to be issued bv the Government, it will be for local 'bodies in common, of course, with tho Police Department to see to their administration and enforcement. The problem of headlights is one of the most difficult of those dealt with, and it has been considered advisable to place the provision dealing with the adjusting of headlights in an alternative form for the time being. After opportunity for criticism has been given it will then be decided whether to insist upon all headlights being adjusted, or only those not so constructed or equipped as to be of an efficient anti-dazzle nature. Motorists and others affected are requested to communicate with the Publie Works Department before December Ist.
