DIVORCES IN U.S.
CHURCH WARNING IN CANADA. From a Special Correspondent. VANCOUVER, October 5. The Church of England in Canada looks with grave disapproval on 'the number of Canadians crossing the international boundary in order to procure of divorces of Canadians obtained in the Dominion of Canada. The number of divorces of Canadians obtained in the United States last year was two and a half times the number granted within the Dominion of Canada. The Church issues the following warning: "In cases where it can be shown that residence within the United States was secured for the purpose of obtaining a divorce, the validity of the divorce so secured stands on most questionable legal grounds in Canada, and, if the parties re-marry in Canada, they may make themselves liable to a charge of bigamy." Although the percentage of Canadians in the foreign population of the United States was only 8 per cent., the proportion of Canadian divorces granted in the United States was 36 per cent. of the number of divorces granted during the year there to couples married in foreign countries.
