N.Z. BEE-KEEPERS.
1 CO-OPERATION NEEDED. AUSTRALIAN EXPERT'S VIEWS. The need for organisation amongst' the bee-keepers of New Zealand is urged by Mr W. S. Penckr, of Maitland, New South Wales, editor of the "Australian Bee-Keeper,'' who is at present visiting Christchurch. Mr Pender said that the New Zealand apiarists had an excellent organisation for the English marketing of their • honey, but in the supplying of the Dominion consumers they badly required some co-operation. At the present time* prices and supplies of honey were eternally fluctuating, and the individual attemtps to get a higher price on the local market resulted in competition and und^r-cutting. "The New Zealand bee-keepers," he told a representative of The Press, should come together and form a central marketing association or federation to keep an even supply of honey for local consumption and prevent internal competition." Although, throuch the efforts of Mr Pender's journal, the Australian apiarists are now working co-operatively and will commence exporting honey to England, he does not consider that this will interefere with the New Zealand export trade. "There are over forty million neople at Home." he said, "and probably no more than five million have ever tasted honey. This provides a sufficient market there for both Australia and New Zealand without any fear of their coming into competition. The New Zealand_ honey is of an entirely different quality from that of Australia, and we will find a different market."
