COLLIERY OWNERS.
ANNUAL MEETING. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TBLEOIUM.) WELLINGTON, November 11. In an address to the annual meeting of the Coal Mine Owners' Association Colonel Holgate congratulated them on having a fairly peaceful year. There had been, however, two attempts by miners to gain further concessions, the curtailing of shiftmen's time in the South IsTandj and the Waikato claim of the right to select men to fill vacancies on coal should any occur. Never, probably, had thejr had a demand so unreasonable and far-reaching in its endeavour to gain control. The demand, he took it, they would all agree, could not be acceded to, whatever cost or inconvenience might be -entailed. On the whole, there had been a better feeling between owners and employees, which should be fostered, if possible. Officers were elected as follow: President, Colonel W. D. Holgate (reelected): vice-president, Mr A. McKellar (re-elected); executive, Hon. Mr Weston, Messrs W. A. Flavell, R. Lee. E. S. Wright, W. Crawford (all re-elected), and G. G. Townsend; auditor, Mr W. C. Stephens.
