ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
POLICE PREVENT TRAGEDY. [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, November 11. Robert Harris, a negro, about 5Q years of age, residing in Onehunga, was found with a gas tube in his mouth about 10 o'clock this morning Mrs Harris informed a neighbour that hc-r husband told her to go away for a while, as he intended to do for himself. The police were summoned, and they found Harris lying on the kitchen floor with a gas tube in his mouth and his body full of gas. Constable Jones sent for Dr. Kirk' wood, who arrived about 11 o'clock, jnst as Harris was coining round, th.'inks to the efforts of Constable Hi:iton, who took Harris outside in the onen and applied artificial respiration with vigour. His efforts were successful after an hour's desperate battle. Harris was taken to the police station and charged with attempting to commit suicide. He is a ship's cook by occupation, and has been without work for some time.
