♦ The Papanui branch of the \7.CT.C met on Thursday, Mrs Merrin presiding over a good attendance "of members. It beinjr cradle roll day, each child was presented with a packet of sweets. Replies were read from the local schoolmasters in regard to tho branch's annual essay competition. It was decided to ask Mr Patterson, secretary of the Alliance, to act as jtidere. Mr T. A. Gates wae asked to accept the position of auditor. An address on "Temperance" was given by Mrs H. L. Blaraires. and at the conclusion she was presented with a bouquet by Master Lindsay Xeilson. Elocutionary and musical items were riven by Mrs Mernn and Misses K. Bond and C. Cooper.
