MANSLAUGHTER VERDICT.
RETURNED IN MURDER TRIAL. (Bt CABLB—PBXSS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT). (AUSTRALIAN AND W.Z AND SUN CABL*.) (Received November 11th, 7.40 p.m.) LONDON, November 11. The jury returned a verdict of manslaughter at the trial of Enoch Dix. The Judge said He did not wish to criticise the finding, but he was totally unable to agree with it. Sentence was deferred. ' Dix's defence was that the uuderkeeper with Walker fired first at Dix, who was hit. Dix automatically clenched his hand, discharging his gun, and killing Walker* Elaborate plans and experimental targets were prepared lor the jury, counsel on both sides demonstrating the respective theories. TWilliam Walker, a gamekeeper on the Earl of Templar's Estate, was shot at midnight on October 11th by poachers. Walker, accompanied by a younger gamekeeper, heard shots and kept a watch. Tho poachers approached and when face.to face Walker challenged them. One man lifted his rifle and fatally shot the gamekeeper in the stomach. The police Subsequently arrested Enoch Dix, aged 32 years, and charged him with the crime.]
