"WORKING FOR PEACE"
♦ ARMISTICE DAY ADDRESS. Under the auspices of the League of Nations Union a public meeting was held in the Chamber of Commerce, last night to commemorate Armistice Day, Mr W. T. G. Airey, president of the Association, presiding over a fair attendance. Mrs T. E. Taylor, vice-president of the Association, delivered an address entitled '"Working For Peace." Sometimes, she said, she thought that as the war receded farther into the background, people were inclined to neglect the opportunities that arose for a permanent peace. She appealed especially to women, who were in the majority among those present, to devote their intellect and energies towards such an aim. It was the humanitarian work of the League, she was sure, that had the greatest appeal for the public, especially the women. The speaker was subsequently accorded a vote of thanks. A collection was taken up for disabled soldiers.
