ATTACK ON WAR.
FIELD-MARSHAL'S VIEW. HORROR OF MECHANICAL BARBARITIES. (BT CABLR—ftIBSS ASSOCIATION— COPXBIOHT.) (AtdTRALIAN AND K.Z. CABLB ASSOCIATION./ (Received November 10th, 7.20 p.m.) LONDON, November 9. Considerable interest has been aroused by Field-Marshal Sir William Robertson's trenchant attack on war, in which he declared that war was all right oO years ago, but was a fool's game now that mechanical barbarities had made it a horror. Referring to this viewpoint, at a time when considerable space in the newspapers is being devoted to talk of the next war, Sir William Robertson says- "It is sheer madness. Look at England. "We were the victors in the World War, but we have got 1,000,000 unemployed and there is the tremendous taxation." Lord Parmoor applauds this condemnation, coming from such a distinguished soldier. He says: "The conditions of modern warfare are such as to remove any glamour it may have had in the past. War to-day is merely stupid, useless, and cruel. Let us hope that Sir William Robertson's remarkable castigation will do "much towards stopping. too frequent talk of the next war."
