The fear of dismissal, because of the disappearance of substantial sums of money while he was in charge of an office, embezzlement to bide the deficiency, heavy betting on horse races in » frantic effort to retrieve his position, and then further defalcations extending over a period of years—these wore the reasons which Harry Stephen Liversage, a clerk, aged 35, gave for his appearance in Court to-day on a charge of having stolen nearly £SOOO from Joseph Nathan and Co. The total amount involved was £4SO4, which disappeared between June, 19-1, and November 3rd of this year. Accused pleaded guilty, and -was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence-
