To the protest which the provincial executive of the Nelson FarmersUnion lodged against the destruction of hawthorn hedges infected with fireblight without compensation, the Minister for Agriculture has replied that the question of compensation was fully gone into at the time of passing the Act, and that the Government is unable to accept responsibility.
