t LAST NIGHT'S SPORTS. There was oniy a fair attendance at English Tark last evening, when a successful sports meeting was held. There was some close finishes in the cycling and running events. There was some dissatisfaction expressed by a portion of the public when after tbe sixth lap in the Two Mile Gup Race the officials called the race off owing to the competitors "loafing on the vovace." SATURDAY NIGHT'S EVENTS. On Saturday night the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union will conduct a first-class programme of cycling and running. The chief events are the three miles scratch race, with Willie Mackie, Jack Henderson, Jack Bearman, J. R. I'Anson as starters. Other open events are the one mile handicap and a three-quarter-mile handicap. A one-mile flat handicap will be held, in which G. Getson, the prominent long-distance runner will compete. M. A. Macdonald and Don. McLennan, both champions, will race in the 120 yds run. , , Arrangements were made last night for a sprint match race between Willie Mackie and Jack Bearman. The race will be oyer three distances—two of half a mile paced, and a quarter-mile nnpaced. The sports will commence at eight o'clock.
