MARLBOROUGH HOUSE.
PRINCE OF WALES'S NEW RESIDENCE. (FY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION —COTYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. AND SUN CABLE.) (Received November Bth, 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 7. Simplicity dominates the alterations to Marlborough House, which is expected to be ready for a residence for the Prince of Wales by Christmas. The entrance opens into a saloon rising the full height of the house. It is decorated with gold and green, and is magnificently lighted by a Wren dome. A suite of eight rooms on the first floor is papered with white with satin stripes, throwing the walnut woodwork into relief. The stark severity of the smoking-room is left as King Edward jokingly arranged it. Thousands of dummy books line the walls, completely hiding the doors, all bearing faked titles, such as "Nine Tails, by a Cat." The books concealing the doorways contain clues. The passage out of the drawing-room, which is suitable for balls, runs half the length of the house, and opens on to the lawn.
