DUPLICATION.

; AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH. ! LINCOLN COLLEGE AND PROGRESS LEAGUE. The member.; of tho Board of Goverik.vs o: Lincoln College object to the special functions of the college being encroached upon by the Canterbury Progress League, and at yesterday's Bo3rd meeting decided to draw the attention of the Minister tor Agriculture to the resultant duplication of research. The director, Mr Alexander, drew the Hoard's attention to the fact that the Progress League was asking the Minister for Agriculture to approve of a man to go into farm costing. "This ?s an extraordinary thing," said Mr Alexander. "The Progress League is apparently doing the same work as we are.

Mr R. "W. Lochhead: Has the Progress League's recommendation to the Minister gone forward before or after ours?

Mr Alexander: Afterwards. Mr Lochhead voiced the opinion that the procedure was most unusual. It seemed, he said, that when the Progress League heard of the proposal of another body to do certain work it decides to do the same. '

Mr J. St nd hoi me said that the Board should take some action and draw the Minister's attention to the fact that such a procedure ivoald lead to unnecessary duplication.

Mr Lochhead: I would go further than that and say that if the Government lias money to spend in that dircotion, it should be given to Lincoln College.

Mr Alexander: We are the proper body to carry out such work as farm economic research, etc.

Mr Lodthead: If the League would pay something towards the scheme it would be all right. Mr Alexander: They have done the same thing in connexion with the move to improve pork production. Mr Studholme: They want all the kudos.

Mr Alexander: Yes, we have been ignored altogether. A resolution was then carried to the effect that the Board should draw the attention of the Minister for Agriculture to tile fact that Lincoln College was doing the work concerned, and suggesting that the reported arrangements m that connexion by tlio Canterbury Progress League would be unnecessary duplication.
