SURF ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. The eleventh annual meeting of the Canterbury Surf and Life-Saving Association was held last evening, Mr C. A. Cooper presiding. The Association decided to hold the Surf Life-saving carnival, at -which the intcr-club c.vents are decided, at Sumner in February. The Sumner Life-saving Club advised tha appointment of Messrs S. K. Bassett, A. T. Bolam, and C. J. Kite as the club's representatives on the Association. The Taylor's Mistake Club notified the appointment of Messrs C. Atkinson and K. S. Brown, and the Life-saving Society Mr K. Wilkinson as delegates.
Mr H. S. Feast was appointed selector of the Canterbury teams for the Dominion life-saving championship, the appointment of an instructor being held in abeyance. The Association decided to affiliate with the Sun Life-saving Association of Australasia.
Election of Officers. The following officers were elected: Patron. Mr F. D. Kes'teven; president, Mr C. A. Cooper; vice-presidents, Captain A. W. Owles, Messrs S. K. Baseett, G. Pearce, H. J. Ballin, and W. H. Benson; chief surf examiner, Mr F. L. Collins; local consul, Mr G. Pearcc; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr D. V. Wilson; delegate k> K.L.S.S., Mr Wilson. Annual Report. | The annual report congratulated members on the completion of a successful season. It stated: —All clubs have again been I under heavy expenditure in maintaining their equipment and keeping their pavilionß i ia good order. The whole of the buildings and plant reflect great credit on the members whose desire it is to safeguard the beaches under their respective care. The competition for tho Nelson Shield was held at Xew Plymouth on February last. Very much credit is due to the Canterbury team which won it, and in particular to Mr H. S. Feast ior the manner in which he instructed the team. Canterbury was represented by Messrs E. A. Owles, F. S. Taylor, E. Wilkinson, A. Dalton, C. Atkinson, A. T. Bolam, X. S. Batehelor, and H. S. Feast (instructor). In the Xew Zealand four man championship, Canterbury obtained second place equal with LyaU Bay. During the season alf clubs earned great credit for the manner in which the beaches were patrolled during week-ends, and it is plea&in<r to report that no serious accidents occurred during these periods. The Association wishes to thank all those who have during the season assisted the Association in any way. particulaHy those gentlemen who have acted as officials at competitions. In conclusion, it is hoped during the coming season affiliated clubs will rjjilise that the Association ia out to do its utmost to help the clubs, and, therefore, will jrive them the opportunity to be of assistance when necessary. The balance-sheet showed a small credit bs'.ance. Amendment of Rules. Notice of motion was given that amendments of the rules should in future be dealt with at the annual meeting -without notice of motion having been previously given. The Association resolved to incorporate in tin rules & clause that during the nest ! twelve months any trophies given for ir.ter-club events should be under the juris- ' diction of the Association and no) subject I to special condition.
