HEAVIER PENALTIES.
WARNING TO MOTORISTS. (fSESS ASSOCIATION* TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, November 7. A warning that he intends to inflict uniformly heavy penalties on drunken motorists "was given by Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., to-day, when Marius Peterson admitted being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car ou Wellington road, Hataitai, early last evening. The sub-inspector said the car was standing on the side of the road, and with defendant was a woman equally drunk, who had been previously fined for that offence. Counsel for accused taid accused had been on a week-end visit to Palmerston North and fallen in with a party of friends. He had been wise enough not to drive back to Wellington himself. Tho Magistrate: In this class of offence I am going to be consistent and impose heavy fines, ai well as order cancellation of license?. A fine of £-0 and cancellation of the license till March. 1929.
