WHIPPET RACING.
CUP MEETING TO-NIGHT. Mr J. R. D. John!, president of the National Whippet Association, who arrived back in Christchurch on Saturday morning, said the inaugural meeting held in Palmereton North lost week was a decided success in all respects. It was held in conjunction with the A. and P. Association's annual show, and a fine programme of events was arranged for both days. Tho Christchurch dogs were well to the fore in all the races, Mr A. H. Forties's Laughing Eyes winning the Manawatu Hurdles on the first day, whilst Mr J. R. D. Johns's Fawnette was the winner of the Palmerston Hurdles on the second day. The most successful of the visiting dogs, however, was Miss Lorna Fitzsimmons's Princess Rose, who won the Manawatu Cup and the Palmerston Flat Handicap. • Ten dogs travelled up from Christchurch to Palmerston North, where, in addition to competing at tho racing meeting, _ they were also entered for the canine section of the show. The visiting dogs were again very successful on the show bench, the biggest win being that of Mr Johns's Fawnette, who was placed as the best sporting dog in the show. Mr Johns said the Christchurch dogs were all in fine fettle, and fit to run really' well in the New Zealand Cup meeting, which is to be decided at New Brighton this evening.
