ST. SAVIOUR'S CHURCH.

FINAL JUBILEE SERVICE. The final jubilee services of the St. Saviour's Church, Sydenham, were held Bishop West-Watson preaching the sermon at the evening service. Bishop West-Watson stated that he was proud to preach at the crowning act of ceremonies in -connexion with the jubilee. The parish was the most popular in the diocese, if not in the whole of New Zealand. In looking back over the past fifty'years, there was so much to be thankful for, as there had been so much done by those who had gone before. Some would remember when the church was > first built, and would remember what it Was like at that time. How far off. appeared the days of 1877! It was probable that the great controversy of evolution was then at its Height. The scientific age had commenced, opening to them fresh visions of God. Their forefathers hardly imagined a day so different from their own. <•■ The people of to-day still regarded the English traditions with reverence, but looked through different eyes from those of 1877. That all meant a change in Church and State, and had brought into .being a new race. A spiritless religion Was not satisfactory. Some considered that the gOlden days were in the past, but the best were yet to come, and they ■had a tremendous work to do. The greatest need of to-day was & united effort for the young people. It had been hoped that something would have be«n done officially. It Was perhaps a disappointment, but it meant that they would have to do the work themselves. The burden could not be shifted On to someone else.
