_4 GLOOMY DAY FOR CHANGE. The change over to Summer Time, in accordance with Mr Sidey's Act of Parliament, seems to have been a painless one in Christchureh. But just as Sunday is a convenient day for making the change, in that the people have not to rush to, keep early appointments, so it is a bad day to observe the effects of the change. These will be more apparent to-day. Even the ostensible object of the' Ajt—to save daylight)—was scarcely achieved yesterday, for the daylight was misty, and there was no sunshine, so that the falling of darkness an hour later by the clocks was not noticeable. From o o'clock onwards there was little better than a dull twilight. Of course, some people forgot to alter their docks, and turned up late for church, but it may be presumed that all the clocks", and watches will have been set forward by this morning. I
