"THE SORCERER."

TO TKK EDITOR 0» THE PBESS. Sir,—Now that the Gilbert and Sul- | liran Opera Company are hero again, [it would be interesting to know why they do not produce that delightful opera, "The Sorcerer." Originally Riven at the old Opera Comiquo Theatre in the Strand fifty years ago, it was revived with "Trial by Jurv," at the Savoy ten or more years 'after that with great success. Few that saw all the operas when first produced would put that down as the worst of them, excellent as they all are. And none who saw George Grossmith as John Wellington "Wells making up his spells m a teapot, or Rutland'Barrington as Dr. Daly, but would want to see it again. When "Ruddigoro" was first produced there was not so much enthusiasm shown about it as about some of the earlier operas. "Well." said Gilbert, "we must call it Kensington Gore, or not so good as 'The Mikado.' " Anyway it seems a pity, unless there is some such question as copyright in "The Sorceror," that we should not have an evening's pleasure out of it from the very capablo company now playing in these operas.—Yours/etc,
