A delightful fancy dress party was held, in the Methodist Schoolroom, Richmond, to ■'. commemorate the seventh birthday of the Richmond Free kindergarten.; The-:'room was.artistically decorated with bowls of pirik and white flowers, whilst pink and white streamers interlaced formed ■ a canopy overhead: There were many original and pretty, dresses. A lovely daisy.and) a white rabbit were greatly admired, whilst a "lucky" black: cat, which miaowed and scrambled about in the nfost realistic .fashion,' caused much merriment'to both young and old. A beautiful sunflower, Mother Hubbard, 80-Peep, Frogs," the Man-in-the-Moon, Pierrots, crackers and fairies, Aulsebrook's advertisements,aud a newspaper, all made a', merry I medley ._ During the afternoon several friends of the kindergarten contributed musical items, whilst many children gave recitations, the young folk showing much talent and speaking their lines with and understanding. Perhaps the chief feature of, the afternoon was the delicious tea provided for the children and guests by the parents of the children who attend the kindergarten. After tea prizes'for the best fancy dresses were presented to the children, and the judges, Mrs Flesher, Misses A'. Thomson arid A. Mcllraith,. had no easy task in making their selection. Hearty votes' of thanks were passed to all who assisted in making such • a "Happy Birthday Party," and many expressed the hope that another such party would be held next year.

Y.W.C.A. GIRL CITIZENS

The Christchurch Community of Girl Citizens held a community gathering this week at which 80 girls were present in the Y.AV.C.A. Sub room. The ceremony included the enrolment of 15 new 'citizens, ; -who undertook to try to be loyal to the Girl Citizen code. Mr Gordon Troup then addressed them on the subject of "Pioneers" and. pointed out the special contribution which women of this age had to give" to men by their vitality and their readiness to encourage ideas. Later in the evening an impromptu speech- rnter-clnb contest was 'held. Miss Edith Petrie and Mr Troup acted as judges and were favourably irnpresS £ ™ x, e - B **ndard of the speeches Ihe Pathfinder section and the Te Keka section in particular produced really well-constructed attempts after one minute's reflection. '
