His Majesty this summer has been reading with considerable interest .the private edition of the book written by Colonel Lawrence about his adventures in the Near East during the war. The King was one of the earliest subscribers to this book, which is, of course, fetching a very high price, The copy will eventually be preserved in the library at Windsor, but for a considerable time this year it has been in the King's private apartments so that he might turn to it at leisure.
There is to be reprinted soon, in a slim, elegant volume of less than 120 pages, published in a limited edition of 500 copies, at the price of twelve shillings and sixpence a copy, Anthony Trollope's shrewd and caustic sketches of "London Tradesmen." These papers, eleven in number, appeared in • the Mall Gazette" some 47 years ago, and their re-issue gives Mr Michael Sadleir—first of all Trol-lopeans-r-opportunity for another of his pleasant interpretative essays upon Trollope's literary and journalistic methoos.
