THREE BUSY MONTHS
The librarian of the Canterbury Public Library (Mr E. J. Bell) reports that the past three' months have been busy ones in all departments of the library. In the circulating department 51.118 books were issued for home reading, an increase of over 3000 compared with the number issued during the same period of 1926. Fiction, of course, predominated, and then next in demand came history and travel, with biography closely following. Books added to the stock in this department numbered close upon 500. The children's library has had an exceptionally busy time during the last thwe months, no fewer than 13,000 volumes having been taken out, an increase of over "JOOO compared with the same period of 1036. New bo'ooks for the boys and. girls numbered about 100 volumes, a few being preseuted by citizens.
The reference department also shows a very good increase, for, during the PBst three months, about 17,000 volumes have been consulted, an increase of over :;000 compared with the same period of 1926. The stock of books was also increased by the addition of about .100 useful volumes.
