NEW BRIGHTON NOTES.

Tides. It will be high tide on the beach today at 12.20 o'clock, and in the river at 1.45 o'clock, and to-morrow at 12.52 p.m. and 2A p.m. respectively.

• Inter-Borough Sports. At a conference of delegates of the Sumner and Xew Brighton Sports Associations, Mr A. W. Owles presiding, complete arrangements were made for the conduct of the coming year's interborough contests. It was "decided that an athletic meeting be held in February the 18th, next, and also that all events be held at New Brighton. Parents' Social. The parents' social held in the Methodist Sunday School was unique in character. The programme was arranged and given bv the teaching staff of the Sunday School. A debate on whether the best method is adopted in the conducting of the School Anniversaries, was one of the features of the evening. Mr Christian took the affirmative and Mr Bascand the negative. A vote was almost unanimous in favour of the negative. The reports of the secretaries showed that there were upwards of 300 scholars, with a staff of 24 teachers. At the conclusion supper was dispensed by the teacher?.

Surf Club. The Central Surf Bathing and LifeSaving Club opens its season to-morrow. Demonstrations of life-saving will be given by members, aud the Mayor, Mr A. W. Owles will present to Master Rodney Cooper a medallion and certificate for saving a boy from drowning in the river Avon.

Armistico Sunday. . In commemoration of the Armistice, the local Territorial platoons, also A. Co., sth (C) Battalion Canterbury Regiment, are parading on the 13th iust, and attending Divine services, the former at St. Faith's, and the latter at Joyland, where a special service is being conducted by the Rev. R. Rainc. The band of the 4th Cadet Battalion, Canterbury Regiment, will play the two units to and from their respective places of worship. Major S. W. B. Brooker, commanding the Battalion, has signified his intention of being present.
