PIGEON SHOOTING.

SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. The South Island clay pigeon championship was decided at Rangiora yesterday, the match being under the auspices of the North Canterbury Gun Club. The weather was everything that could be desired, and there was .-some good shooting. The arrangements were excellently carried out by Mr H. D. Bettger, the club secretary, and other officials. The afternoon's sport was opened with a .'.'CO clay handicap, of 17 birds, the prices being: First £l2, second £5, and thh'd JO. There were 23 competitors. P. C. Riehl (17yds) scored the possible and took the first prize. J. Skilling (12yds), D. Davison (ItSyds), Jf. Anderson (11yds), A. N. Turner (lo'yds), H. Grenuell (16yds), and D. McGregor (13yds) broke sixteen each, aud divided second and third money, taking £1 (is lid each.' Other good scores were: J. Matthews (1-lyds), T. S, Harrison (17yds), J.'T. Corbett (14yds), J. Danielson (12yds), It. Mcllwich (20yds), J. Hickinbottom (14yds) 15 breaks each, aud S. Tisdall (12yds), J. Brown (15yds), and H. 31. Wright (17yds) 14 breaks each.

The championship event was one of 21 clay birds, the shooting being from the lSycls mark, ties to be shot off at five birds, thereafter first miss out. The first prize was a gold medal, value £6 6s, given by tbo North Canterbury Gun Club, and 60 per cent, of the net amount of the sweepstake; second, 25 per cent., and third 15 per cent. Nineteen competed. K. Mcllwrick (Timaru) and H. Grenuell (Lytteiton) broke the possible and divided first and second money, taking £6 9s each, aud shot off for the championship medal, Mullwrick missed his 26th bird, leaving Grenuell the winner. T. S. Harrison (Methven). S. Tisdall (Christchurch), P. T. Riehl (U.S.A.), D. McGregor (Ellesmere), aud H, M. Wright (Christchurch) broke 13 each, and divided their money. The scores were:— H.
