TEMUKA.

PERSONAL. Mr and -Mrs W. Hally and -Mrs and Miss Beri left for Christ church by car yesterday. Mrs Gosling. Wilkin street, is visiting Wairiiate. Mr and Mrs T. Wilson, accompanied by their son, Mr Keith Wilson, Winchester, left by motor for Christchurch, where they will spend a short holiday. Mr and Mrs Geo. Collins left Temuka yesterday for Christehurch, where they will spend a week's holiday. Mr and Mrs W. F. Evans left yesterday to spend Carnival week in Christchurcli.

Methodism. In view of the recent death of Mr. E. Brown, it is not proposed to hold a garden party this year in connexion with the Methodist Church. At'a meeting of the Trustees and Ladies' Guild, it was decided to substitute straight-out giving, and a committee was appointed to arrange a canvass.

Waitea Lodge. The euchre party and dance organised by the Waitea. Re'bekah Lodge proved most enjoyable. Mr C. Palmer won the men's prize, and Mrs D. Horgau the ladies'. The winners of the consolation prizes were found in Mr W. Keen and Mrs B. Spillane. After supper had been served, dancing was indulged in, and for this Mrs Hutcheson and Miss Ivy Ives provided excellent music. Mr W. Seeler was a capable M.C.

Croquet Club,

Beautifully fine weather favoured the opening of the Presbyterian Croquet Club's new lawns'. There was a very huge attendance'of members, and the visitors included the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs T. Gunnion, and practically all the members of the Domain Croquet Club. There was a number of stalls arranged along the eastern fence, and those who were assisting had an exceptionally heavy afternoon. The stalls and stall-holders were as follows: Afternoon tea: Mrs G. Thomson, T. Gunnion,. E. Gibb, and Misses G. Anderson, M. Gibb, and C. Eoddick; sweets: Mrs J. A. Macdonald, Miss Davey, and Miss H. Goodman; cake stall: Mrs Burdon, Mrs H. Wilson, and Mrs" Palmer. The Rev. H. R. Fell addressed those present, after which the Mayor officially opened the season and congratulated the Club on their successful opening. The Mayoress hit the first ball through the hoops, amidst much applause.

Cycling Championships. At a meeting of directors of the Temuka Caledonian Society held on Thursday evening, it was reported that two South Island Championships for cycling events had been allocated to Temuka. These are for the one and two mile events. The centre lias also given a gold medal for the road race, which takes place on December Bth.
