N.Z. COUNCIL.

£4OO FROM SYDNEY MATCH.

The Management Committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council met last night. Present—Messrs D. Reese (chairman), J. S. Barrett, E. R. Caygill, A. E. Byrne, H. M. Tarlor, A. T. Donnelly, and J. I\ Peake (hon. sec). A cable message was read from Mr W. H. Winsor advising that the Council's share of the gate of the New Zealand team's Sydney match would be £4OO.

The hours of play for the first match, New Zealand r. the Rest, on the 11th inst., at Wellington, will be from noon till 7 p.m.. with the customary adjournments. Messrs Bevan and Francis have been appointed umpires.

The hon. secretary of tho Australian Board of Control wrote that tho Council's request for tho English team to play two matches in New Zealand after the Australian tour, would be placed before the Board at its meeting on Decembor 29th.

Challenges for the Hawke Cup have been received from Waikato, Blenheim, Dannevjrke, and South Hawke's Bay. The Associations concerned have ' been advised that tho challongos will be dealt with by the incoming Management Committee. It was decided to inform the Selection Committee that Langridge will be available, but Bowley will not, for the second test.

Messrs Belsten and Butler were appointed umpires for the second test at Chriftchurch. C. C. Kingston, captain of the Taranaki eleven, the holders of the Hawke Cup, wa3 appointed captain of the Rest of New Zealand.

It was decided to write to the Christchurch Bowling Centre and express the Council's appreciation of the Centre's action in putting off their tournament so that it would not clash with the second test match.

The Broadcasting Company was given permission to broadcast the second test. In view of the fact that Mr F. Earl, K. 0.. Auckland, the president of the Council, had advised tlie Management Committee that he would be unable to be present at the annual conference on the ISth and 19th of this month, it was decided to ask the vice-presi' dent, Mr Heathcote Williams, to be chairman.

SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION. The following ■will represent the Christchurch Suburban Association against Ellosmere, at Lancaster Park, on Wednesday, Novembpr 16th, and Thursday, November 17th, commencing at 11 o'clock:—-J. Clarkson, E. Cummins, J. Cadenhead, J. Gray, P. Peacock, E. Watt, G. Chionery, J. Taylor, ft. Laitgford, H. Thompson, and H. Mills. Emergencies: S. Bosley, J. Worrall, W. Cowlin. Any of the above unable to play please notify the secretary at once.

| ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION. The Ashburton Cricket Association mot last evening, the president, Mr H. B. HilHebamp, prosidinj. The Canterbury Cricket Association wrote accepting the invitation of the Association to play a representative match at Ashburton, and asked 1 for a suitable date to be submitted. It .was decided to suggest January 2nd and 3rd. The South Canterbury Association wrote stating that it could not accept the dates submitted for representative fixtures owing to the late opening of tho season. _ The secretary reported having replied asking South Canterbury to' submit dates. Mr R. H. Blggar was appointed to represent the Association at the annual conference of the New Zealand Cricket Association, to be held at Christchurch on' November 18th. He was directed to support the following:— (a) Tliat the number of professional members in each team in Shield matches be limited to one. (b) That there be three selectors for New Zealand teams, (c) Tha u the Canterbury Association be supported regarding direct representation at annual meetings, (d) That umpires for test matches be only allowed travelling expenses. (e)_ That owing to the number ,of teams wishing to compete for the Hawke Cup and the expense involved in travelling to the North Island, a separate competition be held in each Island, tho winners in each case to play off for the Cup. It Is considered that the time : for cessation of play, with the exception of Shield matches, was a matter for each Association. . . . ~ .' . It was decided that three rounds instead of two, as agreed upon formerly, be played in the Junior competition. , The manager of the Auckland touring cricket team, Mr E. C. Beale. wrote'-with, regard to matches. It was decided to reply that the Association would enter into negotiations when the team visited the south. It was agreed that all matches be completed on the grounds upon which they are commenced, excepting by mutual agreement.' The financial statement showed a credit balance of £24 6s 6d. It was decided to apply for a match against the Australian cricket team at Ashburton when it visits New Zealand next year.
