BANKS PENINSULA RABBIT BOARD.

I ■ » ■ MONTHLY MEETING. I ■ " A meeting of the Banks Peninsula Rabbit Board was held .on Wednesday. Present: Messrs H. A. Nutt (chairman), F. R. H. Gardiner, T. E. Feather, C. J. Richfield, J. 0. Coop, and Stock Inspector Henderson. Mr Nutt made apologies for Messrs Menzies and Gray. The chairman reported on his visit lo Wellington to interview the Minister for Agriculture and others in connexion with the petition to be presented to the Governor-Gen-eral asking to be brought under Part 111. of the Rabbit Xuisanco Act. Under the circumstances, the proposed ordinary election was cancelled, as it would be necessary to hold another election when the district was constituted under Part 111. ; After the chairman had answered questions, Mr Gardiner proposed: "That' the chairman bo thanked for his mission to AVellington, and that his action regarding the reconstitution of the Bgard be approved." This motion was supported by Mr Feather and carried unanimously. A general discussion on rabbits took place, during which Mr Richfield said that Mr Libeau brought rabbits to Onawe 75 years ago Mr Nutt mentioned that a man had recently told him he took rabbits to the Peninsula 30 years ago for his children, afterwards releasing them, as the children had tired of them. Mr Gardiner said the rab- ! bits of to-day were not those of years ago. I Mr Feather was of opinion that.the silverI grey rabbit was the worst, but it had nev,cr been his experience to kill one. _ Mr Nutt expressed the view that the onus of killing the rabbits was on the owners and occripiers, and he was *«»*«*'* °J opinion that rabbiters should not be cnS3 Mr Gardiner "said, that all the small ratepayers were up against it. and because of this he would support the po icy of-the present Board. Mr Richfield sari al were opposed to. the employment of rabbiters in his ■nart of the district. . ■ The inspectors' and AValhs's repor s were read and commented upon. As Mr Wallis had killed a number of rabbits on Mr C D. Smith's property, the secretary, was instructed to write .to him drawing his attention . to the unsatisfactory state of his PT Mr Richfield, in accordance with .notice, moveJ: "That a rate of l-18th of a penny

be struck." The motion failed to find a seconder and lapsed. The chairman then moved: "That, in view of the Board being brought under Port "311., the striking of tho rate bo deferred." The motion was seconded by ilr Coop and carried, i Mr Gardiner' said that rabbits had been I seen on tho road between Tcddington and Purau. On the motion of Messrs Coop and Nutt it was decided to send Inspector Had- i ford to inspect the locality.
