BAND OF HOPE COMPETITIONS.
The Band of Hope Union competitions were continued in tho Choral Hall last evening before a large and enthusiastic audenco. The judges were: Tableau, Mr F. 11. Fowler; elocution, - Mr J. R. Lester; pianoforte, Miss B. Pollard; Maypole dance, Miss A.' J. Mcnzies; vocal, Mrs C. J. Gallop. Tlie results were as follows: Tableau —Knox, "Building for Time and Eternity," 79 per cent., 1. Recitation. Class A, Section 2, Boys; Union selection, "The Coming Man"—Raymond Thomson- (Edgeware), 78 per cent.,l; Elder Masson (Durham street south), 75 per cent., 2. Leslie Marfln (Philipson 1.0. R.) and Billie Cook (St. Paul's) also competed. Pianoforte Solo, Class B; Union selection,
"Crepuseule" (Rudolph Frime) —Margaret Brown (Philipson 1.0. R.), 87 per cent., 1; Doreen Evans (St. George's Presbyterian), 85 per cent., 2; Jean Sinclair (Knox), 80 por cent., 3; Ralph Tobeck (Edgeware), 77 per cent., 4. Jean Rondle (New Brighton), Cyril Armour (Knox), Ngairo Andrew (Linwood 1.0.1*.), Shirley Cook (St. Paul's), Florence Dwight (Linwood 1.0. R.) and Gladys Johns (Woolston United) also competed. Maypole Dance—Durham street south, 90 per cent., 1. Knox, St per cent., also competed. Dialogue, Section 1 (No. 2) —Knox, "Rival Counsellors." .1. Recitation, Clajs B, Girls; Union selection, "When Shall We Win ."'—Doris Donnelly (St. Paul's), 83 per cent., 1; Shirley Cook (St. Paul's), 80 per cent., 2; Joan Hughes (Durham street, south), 78 per cent., 3; Edna Henderson (Philipson 1.0. R.), 74 per cent., 4. tiwen Lilley (Rugby street), Kathleen Ware (Rugby street), Eunice Roberts (Sydenham United), Florence Dwight (Linwood 1.0. R.), and Janet Thorn (Knox) also competed. Song in Character, Section 2—Doris Donnelly (St. Paul's), 78 per cent., 1; Ewart Douglas (St. Paul's), 75 per cent., 2; Joan Thomson (Edgeware), 70 per cent., 3. Joan Hughes (Durham street), Shirley Cook (St. Paul's), and .Cyril Armour ' (Knox) also competed. Action Song, Section 2—Knox, "The Flag of the Homeland," 81 per cent., 1. Durham street south, 80 per cent., also competed. Humorous Recitation, Section 1, Girls— Joan Hughes (Durham street south), 91 per reut., 1; Kathleen Instone (New Brighton United), 87 per cent., 2; Grace Nixon (St. Paul's), 83 per cent., 3. Kathleen Chappie (St. Paul's), special prize given by judge. Edna' Henderson (Philipson 1.0. R.), Mirctta Shier (Durham street south), Yvonne H. Dodge ('Riccarton United), Lily Kinselln (Linwood Methodist). Ronn Hill (Edgeware), Doris Evans (St. George's Pvsbyterian), Phyllis Williamson (Edgeware), Florence Dwight (Linwood 1.0. R.), Doris Donnelly (St. Paul's), Margaret Angus (Berwick street), Betty Wanty (Rugby street), and Edn3 Greufell (Woolston United) also competed. The competitions will be continued in tho Choral Hall this evening when tho following sections will be judged: Vocal solo, Class B, girls; club solo, Section 1. wand drill, bo>>; pianoforte solo, Class C; dumbbells competition, Section 1, girls; dialogue, Section 1 (No. 3); recitation, Class B, boys; pianoforte duet, Class D; dumbbells competition, Section 3, boys.
