NAVY LEAGUE.
MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE.
The General Committee of the Canterbury branch of the Navy Leagu9 met last night. Present: Messrs J. J. Dougall (chairman), W. J. LeCrea, D. Manson, Mesdames Tbacker, A. E. Smith, Wyatt, Theo. Barker, -and Miss Sanders. The secretary (Mr C. J. Treleavcn) reported that arrangements were well in hand For Navy Day, when the League's' annual appeal—a badge day on December 9th, ana a garden and river fete on December 10th—would be made. It was decided that the quarterly meeting of members should be held this month on a date to be fixed Lieut.-Commander Dennistoun. of Peel Forest, is to give a ta'.k on "The Operations on Lake Tanganyika.'" Mrs Burnes Loughnan is to be asked. kindly to arrange the musical programme. Regarding the Navy League and Victoria League essay competition, it was reported that' all returns were not yet in from' the judges. It was suggested that his Excellency the Governor-General should be invited to present tho prizes and certificates toward the end of the present month. Votes of thanks were given the Tramway Beard for hoisting Nelson's 6ignal on Nelßon Day in Cathedral square; to the Canterbury Automobile Club for the loan of their premises for the entertainment of the pettv officers and othar ratings of H.M.S. Diomede, and to the Federal Club and to Messrs Webley Sons nnd Gofton for assistance in entertaining the oncers and' m »n from the warships.
