ST. PAUL'S.
WORK OF RESTORATION. CRYPT PIERS COMPLETED. (bt cakji—jebss associatioj—coprwqht.) (acbthalus and h.i. cabu assocutiox.) (Keceived November 2nd, 5.45 p.m.) LONDON, November 1. After three years' constant work, utilising funds subscribed from all parte of the Empire, the restoration of tho piers in the crypt of St. Paul's Cathedral has been completed. First the interior of tho pillars was routed out and steel bars inserted. Then cement was pumped in at high pressure, converting the pillars into solid blocks of roinforced concrete. Many of the iron tie-bars linking the piers with the bastions, which Sir Christopher Wren had inserted, wore found broken, and these have been replaced with steel tie-bars which will stand a Btrain of 600 tons.
The engineers are now working upon the columns supporting the dome, which will occupy another four years.
