points of view. I wish I could share his optimism. .What is the use of clamouring for more primary production when large expanses of agricultural and pastoral lands are falling back on the first mortgagees? Some land in my district has been unoccupied for two or - three years and will soon be' overgrown with weeds, gorse, and rabbits. The production of hundreds of thousands of acres is being lost to New Zealand in this way. Many more farms will be unoccupied after the cominr harvest, as finance seems to be gradually getting worse. The uulimiting of hours of work will not improve matters if the longworked hours of the struggling farmer prove anything. The GoVernmeut has put or is putting legislation on the Statute Book which reads as if it would be a panacea for all agricultural and industrial woes. In spite of all this the position of the primary producer is getting more hopeless. What is wanted is a "Savonarola,'' and on him we would be willing to shower honours which would make those suggested by Dr. Thacker for Mr Sidey as a was candle light in comparison with the searchlight of a mighty dreadnought. Talk will avail nothing. Something tangible must be done and done quick]v.—Yours, etc.. PRIMARY PRODUCER.
