TOLL OF THE GALE

CASUALTY LIST MOUNTS. NORTH SEA SHIPPING SUFFERS. (BY CABLE—PSBS3 ASSOCIATION —COPTRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND JT.Z CABLS ASSOCIATION.) (Received November Ist, 7 p.m.) LONDON, October 31. The mounting casualty list of men and ships in the Galway disaster continues to emphasise the unbridled fury of the gale. Thus far the death roll is 50, and practically the entire Cleggon Bay fleet has been wiped out. Free State aeroplanes are searching the wild coast for possible survivors. Many timber boats from the North Sea and Baltic ports are crippled. Dozens were exposed to the fury of the gale, and some limped into London to-day, one without coal or its captain, who was killed and washed overboard. Another was stripped of its masts and everything on deck, with the crew terribly bruised. Fleetwood's storm death roll has increased to six by the discovery of the bodies of two children who were trapped in a cavern. It is feared that others will ba found when the waters subside. At present low-lying buildings are totally submerged throughout the_ day, and boats and rafts are engaged) rescuing people from upper storeys. In© flood is not expected to recede till the week-end.
