e— — ASSOCIATION MEETING. i A meeting of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association was Held list night, Mr \V. •N. Seay presiding over an attendance of over seventy delegates. The secretary (Mr B. Browning), referring to the proposed visit of French players, said that the president (Mr J. H. Kirk) had been assured that no efforts would be spared to get the Davis Cup winners .to .New Zealand. A letter vaa received from the Canterbury Junior Lawn Tennis Association, enclosing the constitution and asking for tvro shields and financial support. The chairman remarked that good work was being done, for which Mr Wako was largely responsible, and he and his committee were to be congratulated. The Association should do all it could to assist the junior association. It was decidecT"to refer the application for assistance apd the constitution, to the Match Committee for a report.

The Ground Committee recommended that, following a conference with representatives of the Lin wood, North Linwood, and Avonside Clubs, regarding the petition signed by twenty-seven persons residing in the vicinity of Wilding Park, asking that a club be formed in connexion with the Park courts: (a) That the request of the petitioners to form a club be refused; (b) that playing rightß bo granted in connexion with the Wilding Park courto (hard courts onjy) upon payment of the following annual fees, viz., £2 2s for 'men and £1 lis 6d for women, such playing rights to be restricted to such times as the courts are not required by the Association. The recommendations were adopted. Appreciative reference was made b\ the chairman to the work being done by Mr F. J. Murray in coaching young players on Saturday mornings, and he expressed the opinion that tennis would benefit greatly. PRIMARY . SCHOOLS' COMPETITION.

N.Z. COUNCIL MEETS. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, November 1. Council of the New Zealand Lawn. Tennis Association met to-night. A proposal to establish a junior championship under 21 years at the New Zealand championships was defeated. It was decided that nominations for _ tlio oSce of president be invited from affiliated Associations. Sir M. E. Denniston, who presided, stated that it was practically certain that the French team would be playing in New Zealand, but at present he could not give any particulars. It ivas decided to include a New Zealand Plate in the next New Zealand championship events for those -who *were defeated in the first and second rounds.

Tennis players, do not be misled. Ay res' C.S. tennis balls have been adopted as the official ball for this season by the Canterbury Provincial and the N.Z. Lawn Tennis Associations. British and best. —1
