RANGIORA. The regular meeting of the Loyal | Rangiora Lodge of ' Manchester Unity Oddfellows ,■ was held , on' Monday night, Bro. W. Wilson, N.G., presiding. Two applications for payment of the maternity allowance were approved. Three candidates were proposed for membership. • The Town Hall was comfortably filled on Monday evening, when the Christchurch Vagabonds presented "Ann," a comedy in three acts,, by Leehmere Warrall. The proceeds were in aid of the Rangiora Returned Soldiers' Association. The company .'was assisted by the Rangiora Orchestra, under Mr G. Gibbs Jordan. At" a meeting of the Isorth Canterbury Poultry, Pigeon, and _ Canary Club Mr J S. Cook occupied the chair. Mr Cook was elected delegate to the South Island: Poxiltry CJnbs Association conference'to be held at Timaru at the end of the month, 'it was decided to forward remits to + the conference to the effect that future alterations in the standards of weights of poultry should! not effect for twelve months from the date of Posing of the alterations j and that m the event of the Association failing to receive a favourable reply from the Government regarding the conduct of the usual art union. or other financial assistance, the Association takt steps to conduct an art union such as is permitted by law. KAIKOURA. U the Drill Hall on Monday evening Sister Green, who has been appointed matron of the Waimate Hos--1 pital was accorded a public sen -o . 'Tributes to her worth were Messrs James Boyd (county chair man), James Davidson. Mrs W. R. Bulen Revs. J. S. Dunn, Bedwell, and Father Hanratty, and regret expressed at her departure. Oanemg was mdulged in to music supplied by M. Eaton M Mackie, Mrs kirkland, Mr Warner, and Mr S. J. Moeridge Dr. R. L. Withers was M.C. Musical items were given by the Orchestral Societv, Misses Pope, N. Hopkins, Messrs W. Richardson, and b. J. Mogridge. The death occurred on Sunday morniUfr of Mr W. Karamoa, aged 59 years. The deceased was well known and highly respected in the district. He was a cousin of King Mahuta, and a member of the Ngatikoura tribe. Mrs A. Mcßae, of Hokitika, is at present on a visit to Kaikoura. The jubilee celebrations in connexion with the Presbyterian Church.came to. a close on Sunday, when services were conducted by the Rev. Norman Webster, of St. Andrew's, Christchurch. who preached to large congregations morning and evening. The. jubilee offerings totalled £152. Mr L. Shannon, of the Post Office staff, left for the. south yesterday on a holiday. HANMER SPRINGS. [ A challenge match was played between teams from the Football and Cricket Clubs.' After a good game, the Cricket Club won. by 32 runs. For the winners Dr. Chisholm made 48 (retired), Lyons 37 (retired), Gordon 22, Webb 12 not out, and Greaves 10. Herdman took 2 wickets for 27 runs and Milliken 2 for 23. For the Football Club, Anderson .made 42, Alilliken 21,. Tiny 22, Richards not out 11. Gordon took 3 wickets for 23 runs, Hart 2 for 15, and Webb.. 3 for 26.
WAIAU. At a meeting of the committee of, the Amuri A. and P. Association, Mr G. W. Aldridge presided. Tho treasurer reported a credit balance of £221 9s 7d. Correspondence was read from the Canterbury A. and P. Association regarding tho shortage of draught horses, and it was unanimously decided to support the proposal to hold a conference in . regard to the matter. Major J. A. Northcote on behalf of thie Waiau Anglican Church, made application for the right to conduct the luncheon booth at the. annual; show. The application was- granted. The resignation of Mr D. J. Mcintosh was accepted with regret. The committee then went through the schedule for the coming show, and with a lew minor- alterations, it was adopted as for last year. It-was decided that the next meeting should be held at AYaiau on December Bth, at 8 p-ni-A lecture on "Sheep, their Diseases, and their Care, 1 ' was given in the Library Hall by Mr Lukey, Government Veterinarian. There was a veiy fair attendance, and the lecture was a most interesting and instructive _ one. A number of lantern slides were shown and explained by the lecturer, and were of great educative value. At the conclusion of the lecture several -questions were asked and answered. On the motion of Mr G. White, a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Lukey. A cricket match was played between the Rotherham and Waiau senior teams on the grounds of the latter. Rotherham batted first and made 81 runs. Waiau replied with 32. *<* Rotherham, C. Moor earned his bat through the innings for a, patiently compiled 42, while D. L. Rutherford with 37 did best for Waiau. Mow Graham, and Gibb bowled veil t Rotherham, while Cull en was the ,roost successful of the AUiau bowlers.
AMBERLEY. The rainfall for the past, month totalled 322 points. Rain fell on seven days, the heaviest fall being 14b on the 23rd. Tho total for the past ten mouths is USB points, against 1665 for the corresponding period last year. M. South, and C. J- Hadley. His Grace Archbishop Julius conducted the final service of the jubilee celebrations. The church was taxed to its fullest limits, extra seating accommodation having to be provided. The. choir gave an anthem, the soloists 1-ojng Mrs McLean and Messrs E. P. Shier and W. A. Thompson. A social was tendered to Mr Gordon Lukev. who is leaving for Melbourne to; represent New Zealand in the amateur cycle road race. Mr E. P. OXFORD. • At a, meeting of members of tho Oxford Croquet Club, Mrs G. Smith was elected president, and Mrs Judson secretary for the coming year.
TAI TAPU. The ninth-annual concert of the Tai Tapu Musical Society was held in the hall on Monday evening, when a varied programme was presented to an appreciative audience. During the evening two young members made their debut as soloists—Misses Grace Berry and Kathleen Kimber, both of whom sang very sweetly. . Before the conclusion of the programme opportunity was taken to make presentations to Mr H. E. Pervmari, hon. secretary, and Mr J. McLean, conductor. Mrs Suckling, who made the presentations on behalf of the members of the Society, expressed their gratitude to Mr Peryman for his great kindness and invaluable servi'jes rendered' gratuitous-ly-also to Mr .-.McLean for the great assistance he had been to the Society. Both were accorded musical honours.
SPRINGSTON. There was a large gathering at the tennis courts to bid. farewell to Miss Cushla Ryan, who is joining the nursing staff of the Christchurch Hospital. Opportunity was taken to present her with a dressing case as a sin all token of the esteem in which she is held by the members of the club. At Springston the Doylcston cricket team met the home team. Doylcston -made 83 runs (F. Gurnscy 55). The home team made the required runs for the loss of four wickets (11. Sail 31 retired, J. Wright 23 retired, C'. Roid' 10, E. Hoskin 10). At the 20th annual meeting of the Springston Hall Co., Ltd., the balancesheet showed a small credit on the year's working. _ The following director's were re-elected for tho ensuing year:—-Messrs J. W. Kimc (chairman), A. ''-Thompson, H. Neale, J. Mutton, P. Bailey, J. H. Pannett, and W. Moimce. Mr K. W all was reappointed secretary. A euchre tournament and dance under the auspices of the Gymkhana Committee was held in the Springston Hall. The prize-winners were: Ladies, Miss Martha Benny 1, Miss L. Hamilton 2; men, ill' W. Hamilton 1) Mr J. Benny, jun., 2. Mr R. Wall supplied the music for the dance, and Mrs W Greenslade played extras. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Jessie McKay and' Mr AY. Moyle. Mr E.. Neale was M.G. .

Cox is an old and resoected member of the fcdge. He joined the 1.0.0. F. about 60 years ago in America, and has been a member of Templcton Lodge for 23 yeans.
SPRINGSTON SOUTH. At a euchre party and. dance under the auspices of the Social .Committee the prize-winners were Miss Dorotuv Duff arid Mr H. Hoskins. The dance music, was supplied- by Mrs A. itClarke.
PREBBLETON. A euchre tournament promoted by the Church Social Committee, was heta in the parish ball. The pnze-^uners were : Ladies, Mrs AV. Kolkman l M s W. Goodwin 2; men, Mr C. Hands 1, ancV Mr C. Downey 2. The winners of the aggregate prizes, a.quarter,ton or coal, in each case, were Mr and Mrs \V. Kolkman. . • i ■ Tho choir and musical society formed a few .months ago and working under thfi direction or the vicar, tne Rev H. B. Jones, is making very, good progress. The society has now a strong membership, and the recent arrival or a quantity of music from England nas been the* cause of increased, interest amongst the members.
LEESTON. The ladies connected with the Methodish Church in' the Lees ton circuit are well pleased with the. measure of success that attended their winter garden lair. The stall-holders were:-—Home produce, (cakes, etc.), Mesdames 1. J. Ramsay, H. J. Millar, and D. WProsser; variety, Mrs T. J. Gilbert and Misses Parkin and Mabel Brown; sweets Misses Austin and ,G. Gilbert.; work, ' Mesdames L. .R. Barnett. and McMillan, and Misses Ella and. Janet Chamberlain, refreshments, Mrs W. W;. Mitchell, and Misses Martha Brown, Louie Parkin, and Gladys Mitchell. In the evening'songs were sung by Misses Mabel Eade and Gladys Brooks, and instrumental items were given by Miss R. Austin and Mr L. C. Vicary. A very amusing play, entitled "Between tlife Soup and- the Savoury," was presented by Mrs A. E. Brown and Misses Parkin and Ferrier.
DARFIELD. Prior to the departure of Mr A. V. Wilkes for Waiau, Mr Geo. Cridge, jun., on behalf of the' Symphony Orchestra, made him a presentation in appreciation of his valuablfe services. Miss Mary Nolan has resigned her position as assistant clerk at Malvern Electric' Power Board in order to continue her musical studies.
SOUTHBRIDGE. In aid of the combined schools' excursion fund, a very successful euchre and dance social was held in the Southbridge Town Hall on Sports. IS iglit, the building being crowded. First prizes at euchre were won by M rs Howntson and Mr R. Wallace, while the second prizes went to Mrs J Hannah and Mr A. Tong. _ Mrs R. Liimbie played for the dancing.
