BOXING CONTROL.
AMATEUR BODY TO ASK FOR REGULATIONS. [THE ?REBS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, November; 1. Having attended the Australian Amateur Boxing Union Conference in Sydney, Mr J. F. Wilson, headmaster of the Maori Hill School, Dunedin, arrived at Auckland by the Ulimaroa morning, and prooeeded south by to-night'h express. : -"I represented the New Zealand Amateur Boxing Union," said Mr Wilson, "as also did Messrs Hoggard and Aldridge, the latter being the secretary of the New Zealand Boxmg Association, whereas I.am one of those who want to get separate control for amateur boxing in New Zealand, the same as for amateur athletics and other branches of sport. The.other delegates from this Dominion favour the present method whereby amateur and professional boxing are controlled by the one body."
The conference in Sydney was attended by delegates from branches of the Australian Amateur Boxing Union in the various States. - An interesting fact-mentioned by the returning delegate is that the conference. confirmed the result of the mail ballot, which was taken some time since throughout Australia, for. the purpose of ascertaining, whether tho various bodies favoured separate or joint control for-amateurs and professionals. The result was in favour of separate control as already existing in the Commonwealth.' "It is our intention now to petition for regulations to be brought in giving separate control in New Zealand," said Mr Wilson. "There is no disputing the fact that a purely amateur organisation, should control boxing as in the case of all other sports."
