The Lyttelton Harbour Board, at ks meeting yesterday, diseussedd the proposed repeal of the exemption of local bodies' vehicles under the Motor Vehicles Act. The matter was brought up by a letter from the Harbour Boards Association bringing the proposal under the notice of the Board in case the Board desired to express a protest. -Mr W K. McAlpine said he strongly objected to any protest being made He saw no reason at all why local bodies and Government motors should be exempt. "The local bodies and the Public' Works Department have big are-ton lorries tearing around the country knocking seven bells out of the roads/' he said. Mr AY. J. Waiter supported Mr McAlpine, and said the exemption was wrong m principle. Tf anything the local bodies and Government should pay a heavier tax. He thought that the Board should take no action. The letter was received.
