BAND OF HOPE COMPETITIONS.
The Canterbury Band of Mope Union competitions were continued in the St. Paul's School Hall, Lichficl4 street, last evening, before a large audience. The judges were; Pianoforte, Miss B. Pollard; elocution, Mr J. R. Lester; vocal, Mr Scrimshaw; violin, Mr 0, Partridge. The results are as follows:—, Recitation, Clsss A, Soction.L, Girls, Union selection, "What Can Little Children Do!" —Betty Wanty (Rugby street), 75 per cent., 1; Muriel Clothier (Madras street), 74 per cunt., 2; Norma Judkins (Philipsou 1.0. K.), 73 per cent., 3; Ethel Armour (Knox), 73 per cent., 4. Esthel Johnson (Durham street S.) and Rhondda Wanty (Rugby street) also competed. Pianoforte Solo, Class D, "Country Gardens"—Miss Gwen Davies (Rugby street), 84 per cent., 1; Miss Edith Musgrove (Knox), SO per cent., 2. Miss E. Walsh (Philipsou 1.0. K.), and Miss Gladys Grimshaw (Philipton 1.0. R.) also competed. Vocal Solo, Class A, Boys, own selection —■ Elder Mosson (Durham street ,S), 79 per cent., 1. Maurice Judkins (Philipson 1.0. R.) and .Noel Flewellyn (St. George's Presbyterian) also competed. Humorous Recitation. Section J., Hoys, own selection —Dawson Douglas (St. Paul's), 79 per cent.. 1; Donald McLean (Berwick street), 77 per cent., 2; Raymond Thomson (Edgeware), 75 per cent. 3. Billie Cook (St. Paul's), Clivc McNeil (Durham -street S.), Vernon Hill (Edgeware), and Cyril Armour (Knox) also competed. Vocal Solo, Cla6s B, Boys, own selection — Gordon Smith (Edgeware), 86 per cent., 1. Dawson Douglas (St. Paul's), and Arthur Armdale (New Brighton) also competed. Violin Solo, own selection—James ■' Brown (Philipson 1.0. R.). 88 per cent., J. Miss J. McFadzien (New Brighton) also competed. Illustrated Band of Hope Address —Miss Jessie Musgrove (Knox), 88 per cent., 1. Messrs K. Armour (Knox) and AV. Sherlock (New Brighton) also-competed. Vocal Solo, Class B, Boys, own selection— Ewart Douglas (St. Paul's;, 90 per cent., 1; Cyril Armour (Knox), 82 per cent., 2; Winstono Berry (St.'George's Presbyterian), 81 per cent., 3 . Vernon Hill (EdeewsreK'tt. Schenkel (Philipson 1.0. R.), and Stephen Elewellyn (St. George's Presbyterian) also competed.
The competitions will be continued in the Choral Hall this evening, when the following final sections will be judged:—Duet in character, Section II.; Hoop drill, vocal solo, C, girls; dumbbell, section 11., girls; pong in character, section I.; olub competition, section I.; action songs, section I.; sacred solo, section 1., girls; recitation, C, girls; club competition, section 11.
