SPECIAL SCHOOL.
FOR PEDAGOGICAL RESEARCH. CANTERBURY COLLEGE PROPOSAL. A proposal to establish an experimental school for pedagogical research, made by Professor Shelley, was reported on at yesterday's meeting of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College.
The special sub-committee appointed by the College Committee to consider the proposals reported as follows: Having approved the suggestion to establish an experimental school for pedagogical research and recommended that the proposals be placed before the Education Department. Having appointed Messrs W. Brock and L. B. Wood a sub-committee to select a suitable site in the suburbs of Christchurch for the experiment a i school.
Having approved the following suggestions submitted by Professor Oheiley:— (1) The school to have about 100 scholars; (2) the Education Department to be asked to make grants to the Hoard of Governors for the building r.nd running of the school equivalent to the amount such a school would cost if it were an ordinary public: school or a. "special school"; (3) tho staffing of the school to be in the hands of the Board of - Governors and appointments to the staff to bo regal ded by the Department as "special r-ppointments"; (4) tho Professor of Education to be director of the school and to work in collaboration with the chief inspector of the district and the principal of the training college. Having resolved that the above proposals he placed before the Director of; Education in the first place at a personal interview, and having instructed the Registrar to. enquire when the Director will next-bo in Christchurch. The report was adopted.
