PING-PONG TOURNAMENT.
What can be accomplished in spite of apparent difficulty was clearly demonstrated by tho deaf people's Ping Pong Club, when they hold their annual social and prize-giving at the Navy League Hall. A large gathering of over a hundred persons met in the hall, which was very tastefully decorated by beautiful blooms of arum lilies, tulips, and irises all from their own garden. A most successful programme was arranged by their energetic secretary, Mr John Kinnear. Violin solos were played by Misses Spedding, and Mrs Stokes played piano solos and Mrs Show sang two songs. The non-hearing members of the club gave several very enjoyable items, including a folly dance by Miss Phyllis Hcgarty and Miss Annie Asbly, and solo'dances by Miss A. Ashby, a humorous sketch, a story without words was given by Miss Jessie Richardson, Miss Clarico Truman, and Mr J. Kinnear. During the ovening the finals of the pingpong championship were played off. The men's senior championship shield was won by Mr J. Kinnear, who defeated Mr C. Flood 6-3, 6-3. After supper was served the prizes won during the season were presented by Mrs Meltzer. the donor of the ladies' senior cup, and Mrs Bassett and Mrs Vincent Smith. Mr Vincent Smith, who is the hon. treasurer of the club, before announcing the prizewinners, remarked upon the very successful season that the club had held, and commented upon the fine sportsmanship displayed by members of the club. _ j Tho prize winners were:—Mrs V.
