Lii* Guards bore the eofßn to the chapef, and behind them walked the Marquess of Cambridge's butler, Mr Fleming. bearing the Marquess's Orders on a purple cushion. As the coffin was lowered into the crypt the Earl of Eltham, the Marquess of Cambridge's heir, dropped earth on the casket. The Queen wept behind a heavy black veil, and appeared distressed throughout the service. Mr Crabbe represented the New Zealand Government at the funeral.
